PHOTOFAIRS returns to Shanghai from September 18-20, 2020. Taking place at the iconic Shanghai Exhibition Center, the Fair looks forward to its most exciting edition to date.
Since its launch seven years ago, PHOTOFAIRS has established itself as Asia’s leading contemporary art fair dedicated to photography, photo-based artworks and new media. With its dynamic line-up of galleries from across Asia, Europe and North America, PHOTOFAIRS has become a vital crossroads for international collectors, museum curators and new buyers, in search of exciting work not yet seen in Paris, New York, and London.
The Fair plays an important role in shaping the tastes of the new generation of photography collectors who are increasingly evident in China, making it an unrivalled opportunity for galleries looking to broaden their collectors-base and to re-establish contact with clients from across Asia.
In addition to galleries showcasing contemporary photography the Fair hosts an extensive public program that explores key historical moments, debates current trends of photography via a vibrant range of exhibitions, talks and events. You can explore previous editions of the PHOTOFAIRS public program here.
Application deadline: May 29, 2020
PHOTOFAIRS 2020 welcomes gallery proposals for the Main section at the Fair, in addition to special sections Platform, Staged and Connected.
Main welcomes applications from galleries from around the world presenting displays of vintage masterpieces, contemporary photo-based works, video and the latest innovations in new technologies.
Platform is a special sector that offers a lower stand rate to galleries that are new to the market. PHOTOFAIRS recognizes the difficulties of taking those first steps with art fairs and this sector looks to provide support for galleries that are:
a) New to the mainland Chinese market
b) Founded in 2015 onwards.
Staged focusing on artists exploring the relationship between photography and other art forms. These focused project paces are available from 5-15sqm.
Connected marks the Fair’s focus on new technologies and celebrates the breadth of subject matter and technique being explored in new media.
Applications to PHOTOFAIRS are open to commercial galleries or artist agents with a consistent exhibition history who present a minimum of 4 exhibitions per year in their own business premises, external project spaces or art fairs. Selection is based on the curatorial strength and premise of each gallery’s exhibition program, represented artists and the proposal for PHOTOFAIRS. Criteria such as quality of the art, previous art fair presentations and any projects undertaken by the gallery and its artists both locally and internationally will be taken into consideration. Application deadline May 29, 2020.
