Irene Mamiye Solo Exhibition

Nowadays, Poor Image is overwhelming the online stage of internet and doubling the difficulties for people’s reading activities. Can people still find the sense of ritual in the action of reading digital images? The fate of images has never been ignored in an era like today, but the fate of images has been closely tied to the fate of human beings. The work of the French artist Irene Mamiye, now living in New York, is concerned with reorienting these neglected images and making them once again "proudly" standing back as the protagonist.

German artist Martin Schoeller is renowned for his large, close up portraits and has been invited to photograph hundreds of celebrities and politicians.  His work regularly appears in TIME, The New Yorker, Vogue, The New York Times, and the exhibition will feature 65 portraits from across Schoeller’s career. 
 


 

The Autumn of Paradise : Jean-Luc Mylayne

World-renowned French photographer Jean-Luc Mylayne has dedicated his life to photographing ’the bird’ in rural settings. When taking photos with hand-made lenses, Mylayne would, as The New Yorker describes, “stalk his subjects with an obsessiveness that would be alarming if they were human.”  This exhibition showcases some of the artist’s best known works.   

 

 

Goodbye: Chen Wei Solo Exhibition

This exhibition is a continuation of Chen Wei's 2017 ShanghART Beijing Solo Exhibition, which will be presented in different chapters as part of the entire “New City” project, which was started in 2013. Chen Wei hopes to depict the moments of discreteness through his works, and it is also a fleeting history under temporary buildings. They are also discussing the relationship between cities and artists, definitions and imaginations, or imaginations that are no longer available.
The exhibition will showcase the recent photography and installations created by Chen Wei, as well as live scene installations.

 



 

Michael Najjar: Outer Space

On the 50th anniversary of man’s first landing on the moon, BANK will present Outer Space, Michael Najjar’s debut solo exhibition in China. Through immaculate, large-scale photo compositions, 3D simulated videos and insightful texts by some of the most important luminaries in the field, Najjar takes a complex and critical look at the technological forces that are transforming our relationship with the galaxy and the 21st Century.

 



 

First Sight 1860s - Photography of China : Felice Beato

Felice Beato was one of the world’s earliest war photographers and one of the first Europeans to photograph East Asia. Centered around the theme of ‘War and Image’, the exhibition brings together more than 40 prints, short films, multimedia installations and other works to give insight to Beato’s practice.

 



 

The Light Runner 180

Damien Dufresne: ‘Ne le dis à personne’  ‘Tell No One’

As a photography artist, the influence of painting in Damien's career has become more and more obvious. The artist transforms the model into roles in the context and makes them actors in their own stories, inspiring their chemical reactions with him. As an innovative marine research schooner, "Tara" was born to challenge extreme conditions. Ever since her first mission, Tara serves as a moving platform to predict and better anticipate the impact of climate change. Aiming to raise the general public’s awareness of the Ocean, its fragility, and its immense treasures, for the past few years Tara has been welcoming aboard artists-in-residence. “We are continuing the tradition of the legendary 19th century naturalist expeditions, when sailors, scientists and artists set sail together to share the same experience, each with his individual work and mode of expression,” explains Romain Troublé executive director of the Tara Expeditions Foundation.

 

 

Maleonn x Erwin Olaf Dual Exhibition: Story Smuggler

The duo exhibition ‘Story Smuggler’ will present works from Chinese artist Maleonn and famous Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf. 
Through two brand new art series that have never been exhibited before, Maleonn presents a fable built upon the nostalgia of traditional China. A Flash Between Memory and Disillusion is a group of ten wide-cut photographs in a long scroll format.
Maleonn is not only showing his works, he is also the curator, selecting Erwin Olaf’s artworks. He brings together different works from several series, especially the most recent ones, Shanghai and Palm Springs series, and thus creates a story echoing his work. The exhibition is also an opportunity to create a dialogue between East and West through these two talented artists.
