Stroll In Midair
"As a working freelance photographer I grew tired of shooting commissions and retouching photographs. Instead I decided to start making my own art books and experiment with different techniques. I’ve always been attracted to the damaged surfaces of aged objects and so began marking and scratching my photographs to create a similar effect. Gradually, I felt myself breaking free from my creative constraints and began drawing in 2017, mostly playing with shapes and lines. I have trained myself to look at things in a new way and it feels as if I am taking a walk on the deep sea floor while looking above to another version of me immersed in the process of making. I’m still on this road of discovery and the scratches and markings on my photographs reflect the experiences I gained the life I lived." – Kazuyuki Yamada
