Public Program

The PHOTOFAIRS | San Francisco Public Program brings together international figures from the art world to open up the conversation around current trends in contemporary photography and collecting.

Conversations features leading art world experts, artists, curators and collectors in a dynamic program of talks and panels. This program will examine key themes and ideas seen throughout PHOTOFAIRS | San Francisco.  Highlights include: 

  • A Public Agenda, a conversation with David Benjamin Sherry, Artist; Nion McEvoy, Collector; and Kevin Moore, Curator. Presented by FotoFocus Cincinnati. 
  • An in-depth conversation with Matt Lipps, Artist, and Virginia Heckert, Curator & Department Head, Getty Museum
  • The Institutional Lens : Collecting Photography by Artists from Latin America with Sarah Meister, Curator, Department of Photography, The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Shoair Mavlian, Associate Curator of Photography, Tate Modern, London; Thyago Nogueira, Curator, Instituto Moreira Salles; Idurre Alonso, Associate Curator of Latin American Art, Getty Research Institute
  • Landscape Photography in a Time of Social Change with David Maisel, Artist; Christina Seely, Artist; and Julian Cox, Chief Curator

Insights | The Poetry of Silence: Meditation, Elegance & Photography, curated by Alexander Montague-Sparey, Artistic Director, explores the medium’s historically innate quality at being both elegant and meditative. Focusing on photography's quiet capacity to capture the very essence of the human condition through haunting portraits, still lifes, as well as subliminal seascapes & landscapes, artists in the show include  Tammy Rae Carland, Erica Deeman, Matt Lipps, Klea McKenna, Viviane Sassen, and Eva Shlegel, among others.
