An Introduction to Collecting

Alexander Montague-Sparey (Artistic Director, PHOTOFAIRS) and Sarah Shepard (Fair Director, PHOTOFAIRS | San Francisco)  are delighted to host, for the second edition of the fair, private, dedicated tours of the fair.
These tours will facilitate introductions to our dealers and will further contextualise works offered for sale at the fair.

Private Tours:

This tour is ideal for new collectors looking to acquire their first ever photograph.

The Landscape Tradition.
This tour will explore the importance of landscape within the history of photography, looking at images iconic within classic Americana, through to international artists who draw inspiration from nature.

Looking at Asia: Exploring works from China, Japan and Korea
This tour places a spotlight on Asia, a region of increasing significance within the domain of collectable photography.

Unique photographs:  Maverick artists breaking all the rules
This tour is ideal for collectors looking to get a deeper understanding of artists who print unique, non-editioned works of art either by using 19th century techniques or by breaking the boundaries of the medium by subverting the standard gelatin silver print or C-print.

Fashion & portrait photography 
From nudes and fashion portraits, to portraits of muses and celebrities, this tour will focus on images from popular culture which we have grown to love and recognise.
