Welcome to applications for the eighth edition of PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, the leading art fair in Asia dedicated to photography and digital artworks, which returns to the Shanghai Exhibition Center from April 20-23, 2023. The Fair welcomes presentations of contemporary photography, moving-image, installations and new technologies (such as VR and AI) as well as works by classic masters.

Selection for participation is based on the curatorial strength and premise of the gallery’s application proposal, exhibition program and roster of represented artists. Criteria such as quality of the artworks, previous art fair presentations, and any associated projects undertaken by the gallery are central to a successful application.

To celebrate the vital role of photobooks and art publications within the photography and digital art community, the publishing sector within PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai welcomes publishers, bookstores, art book dealers and art studios or institutions presenting works relating to photography, moving images, and new media art including photobooks, magazines, catalogues, historical and theoretical research.

Application deadline: December 23, 2022. For further information, please contact

This is our first time participating in the Fair and we are really excited to be here. So far this week we have seen a great reception from the general public and from the collectors at the Fair and we’ve had a wonderful time exhibiting our work in the exhibition.

Sean Kelly Gallery (New York)

We thought it was very important to come back because we met some really good collectors last year. We wanted to continue those conversations and also develop a few new ones and we have done that. We are very happy to be here.

KÖNIG GALERIE (Berlin, London, Seoul & Vienna)

We have taken part in PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai every year since it was established and this year was no exception. Despite the pandemic we were happy to still see many collectors visiting the fair and sales have been stronger than previous years.

Three Shadows +3 Gallery (Beijing & Xiamen)

The atmosphere at PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai this year has been particularly good with many young collectors visiting and showing not only their enthusiasm and appreciation but also a real understanding of the works on display.

AIKE (Shanghai)

Some of our familiar collectors have all came today, and they are buying quite positively. Another good phenomenon is that younger collectors have been showing up. I have never seen them before, I would see it as a good trend.

Matthew Liu Fine Arts (Shanghai)

This is our first time here at PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai and it’s been a really rewarding experience. We’ve met some great new collectors, young collectors, old collectors and we also met curators who were very interested in our program.

Despite the pandemic restrictions, sales this year have proven to be stronger than in previous editions. We have taken part in PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai every year since it was first launched and have always had great confidence in the fair. Over the past few years, PHOTOFAIRS has played a major role in nurturing and developing local interest in collecting photography.
