Gara means Island in Guanche language.
This place was a military bunker, its first primary reason to exist is no more a reason. Now it is a place of freedom, every kind of freedom.
The installation is based on the real size of the picture. So what we are looking at (the installation) respects the real place’s dimensions. In doing so, the spectators' position and relation with the space are completely merging with the artist’s experience.
The view breaks the wall and builds a strong prospect. The spectator asks himself where is his own position. Is it in the brutal and at the same time known and safe world? Is he outside in the endless landscape, which is beautiful and calm but at the same time endless with no way no go back?
It is artificiality and nature, male and female, light and darkness, beauty and ugliness all together, also just an unmarked boundary between these realities. Isn’t the contrast the place where every single spark of energy and life starts?
