The Conversations program offers visitors and galleries the opportunity to engage with an extensive public talks and events program, with each event intended to further explore and celebrate the local and international fine art photography market and celebrate artists from across the Asia Pacific region. Each event is led by a high-profile panel of experts and encourages debate engaging with a live audience.

Friday, September 8
1.30 - 2.15 pm | A Color Explosion | The Evolution and Influence of Color Photography

Alexander Montague-Sparey, curator of Insights will be in conversation with New York dealer Robert Mann. Together they will look at the the history of color photography in America and its evolution into European and Asian practices. The second part of the talk will focus on the work of artists Shen Wei, Cheng Ran and Feng Yan, and their respective approaches to colour in their work.

Speakers | Naomi Cass (Director, Centre of Contemporary Photogrophy, Melbourne), Jean-Francois Dubos (President, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris), Karen Smith (Director, OCAT Xi'an) and Heung Shing Liu (Director, Shanghai Centre of Photography)
This panel brings together four photography experts to discuss the present and future status of photography within the art world at large. The panelists will discuss the role of photography in a curatorial context and how institutions approach collecting the medium, as well as presenting the unique opportunities and challenges presented by photography.
4.30 - 5.15 pm | Twenty Years of the Walther Collection | A Personal Journey

During the past two decades, the German-American collector Artur Walther has assembled one of the world's great photography collections. In this conversation with curator Christopher Phillips, Mr. Walther will discuss his approach to collecting, his founding of a private museum, and the ambitious series of exhibitions and books that the Walther Collection has organized.
